Character Relations
Key: |
Disinterest/Interest: How strong the desire to vivisect, or otherwise pay attention to is. Defaults to +3 (general curiosity). A negative score is either already understood (and therefore dull), or only worth organ harvest. A positive score also implies the likelihood of risk he's willing to take in order to obtain said material. |
Loathing/Fondness: How annoyed by, or otherwise irritable Kurotsuchi is at the character's existence. Defaults to -3 (mild dislike). A low positive score indicates tolerance, rather than liking, though. |
Disdain/Esteem: How much Kurotsuchi respects the character. Respect can be had without liking or trust, and is more a show of grudging recognition of some skill or intelligence. Defaults to -3 (condescension). |
Paranoia/Trust: How willing he is to accept a character's words or actions. Not necessarily a show of how much he'd offer to share with them, which only occurs at high positive levels. Defaults to -4 (always prepared). |
Unohana Retsu ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Captain, 4th Division; Ally
Unohana is in the troublesome position of being someone whose abilities he recognizes, and even has a grudging respect for. She's intelligent, has more healing knowledge than he does, and would be likely to be able to cure most (if not all) of his poisons given sufficient time. This earns his respect, if a competitive one, and wanting to outmatch her is a minor goal. Her perpetual calmness irritates him a little, as does her occasional willingness to meddle in his research projects. Kurotsuchi still hasn't forgiven her for stealing one of his subjects away. She is one of the only people who can potentially curtail his actions, because he knows he couldn't stand against her abilities. This bothers him, and he'll threaten, complain, verbally fight it- but if Unohana tells him specifically to back off from someone, he'll very, very reluctantly do so. Like everyone else in the divisions, he has a healthy wariness of her smile. And on the other hand, though he looks down on her perpetual caring for the other members of the city, she's one of the only Kurotsuchi would consider going to, if- for some odd reason- he needed something he couldn't do/provide himself. He would hate it, but he trusts her motivations to that degree.
Abarai Renji ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Lieutenant, 6th Division; Ally
Kurotsuchi does not take Renji seriously. While before he dismissed him as just another insignificant member of another division (possibly a little worse than that, considering Renji's previous stay in the 11th Division), the lieutenant's persistent disrespect for him in the city has caused his opinion to plummet further. Instead of a mocking indifference, he has a more specific dislike for the man, comparing him to insects or other insignificant things. For some reason Renji doesn't seem to appreciate this, and responds with something less than total submission! Absolutely improper behavior towards a superior.
Hitsugaya Toushirou ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Captain, 10th Division; 'Ally'
At first, Hitsugaya was just another captain- someone to indifferently dislike, and otherwise not pay attention to. That changed primarily when, after Kurotsuchi captured and vivisected Uchiha Sasuke, Hitsugaya's close partner- the 10th captain successfully killed the scientist. This isn't, naturally, something that Kurotsuchi can easily forget, and he still bears a fair amount of anger over it. Over time, he's been able to understand a little of why Hitsugaya did it, but he still feels the other acted entirely out of proportion to his completely reasonable methods. Even with any bit of comprehension, his own interests go first, and always will. He doesn't hate Hitsugaya for it, not anymore- but he does take a certain pleasure in seeing him suffer, and will laugh and mock him for it if given half a chance. Kurotsuchi is, though, very hesitant to aggravate him enough to provoke another attack. He realizes he misjudged Hitsugaya's abilities to some considerable degree, and this makes him especially paranoid. While he's mostly convinced himself that it wouldn't happen again, he's far too cautious to be as certain of it as he once was, and in that sense, his respect for the other has increased a fair amount. When, because of an event, Kurotsuchi believed Hitsugaya was his son, this additionally confused the issue. Alongside dislike came possessiveness, and more of an interest in him than he had before. He may despise him, but he's something of his to despise; when Hitsugaya was killed, it annoyed him rather than pleased. Because of some odd feeling of connection, he expects the other captain to manage things like that, to survive and do well. He still wants him to suffer, but he doesn't want him to fail. If it weren't for the whole 'killing him and destroying his lab' thing, he'd probably get along with him reasonably well.
Ukitake Jyuushirou ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Captain, 13th Division; Ally
As a senior captain, Ukitake is one of those people Kurotsuchi knows must be reasonably powerful, yet the scientist doesn't hold him in too much regard. The man's personality is too gentle, too harmless for Kurotsuchi to easily respect, and he's fairly dismissive of him in general. On the other side, Ukitake is also polite, and that's a rare enough commodity. As such, Kurotsuchi's spoken to him more than he probably ever has back in Soul Society. And as a result, though he still doesn't exactly like or respect him, he has a slightly better regard for him than he used to. He doesn't appreciate him, but he's fairly at ease with him, while still not taking him very seriously. Ukitake's choice of friends is a point against him, but there's no accounting for taste.
Urahara Kisuke ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Former Captain, 12th Division; Nuisance
Kurotsuchi despises Urahara. There's little other way to put it- the other man confuses and infuriates him, and though he does his best to keep the worst of that anger restrained, something of his dislike is always apparent. But he recognizes him. He knows of Urahara's intelligence, his abilities- and though he would be absolutely loath to admit it, even to himself, he knows that the other is a more experienced scientist. Despite their shared love of research and creation, this doesn't endear the man to Kurotsuchi, and only bothers him- that someone so clever, who appreciates his work on the same level... is absolutely maddening, inexplicable, annoying. He isn't fooled by Urahara's charisma, but he doesn't understand it either. He knows not to trust most of what he says, but he also doesn't know why Urahara says what he does, why he behaves like a fool. He doesn't understand him, and that aggravates him more than anything- that the only person who adores science like him, with the same insatiable curiosity- that he's yet an unknown. And Kurotsuchi can't discount him, can't ignore him. He is- like it or not- extremely invested in Urahara's opinion of his work, unable to stand the thought of being dismissed. And it's partially for that reason, partially for pure practicality- that he's currently willing to work on a shared laboratory with him. Access to more equipment, working with someone as creative as he, who won't be horrified and outraged at (most) of the forms his research takes- it's a rare opportunity. Worth, perhaps, the trouble. It even extends to being willing to 'help' the man- at least, when it takes the form of vivisecting him without anesthesia in order to study a particular disease plaguing him. How Urahara became stricken with the hellfire at all took the scientist's respect for him down a little, and even the experience of cutting him apart did little to assuage his irritation. Kurotsuchi's hatred doesn't take the form of wanting to kill Urahara, or even wanting to see him dead. It doesn't even particularly take the form of wanting to surpass him. But he wants to surprise him, to hold himself on the same level, to create things that would impress him. Research isn't something that you 'win' once, and you're done- there's no victory he's after, only discovery after discovery, and maybe eventually he'll figure the man out.
Alphonse Elric ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Alchemist; curiosity
Alphonse is a strange one. He's been aware of him for as long as he's been in the city, and he's yet to actually vivisect him, despite strong persistent curiosity as to how alchemy actually works. Unfortunately, he was a bit too enthusiastic about his interest, and was 'dissuaded' from that path by Unohana. Because of that- and because of Alphonse's other connections within the city- Kurotsuchi knows he can't attack him directly. This does nothing to sate his curiosity. But despite that persistent frustration, he doesn't particularly dislike Alphonse, as the boy has always been fairly polite in his direction. And he does, for a similar reason, trust him to a moderate degree. It's a large reason why he's willing to tease him more than he would a lot of people; not that it's very nice teasing, and not that it's easily distinguishable from serious threats, but he means... not ill. And it's not that Kurotsuchi would be likely to ask him for anything, but the shinigami is fairly certain he understands how Alphonse would react to things, and that the boy is a certain kind of reliable. He still looks down on Alphonse's 'sentimentality', considering him too soft, too reluctant to attack or insult. Even so- because of it, even- Kurotsuchi is a touch more open with him about his more complicated moods. Alphonse just has that effect on people.
Castiel ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Angel; surprisingly tolerable
Kurotsuchi doesn't know much about Castiel. But of any of the angels, he's the one the scientist tolerates the most, appreciating the other's straightforward logic. Unlike his relatives, Castiel is capable of pointing out power differences, or the consequences of careless vivisections without infuriating him, which is something most people aren't capable of. Kurotsuchi still doesn't remotely trust him- not because of anything Castiel has done, but by virtue of what he is, and his 'family.' If it weren't for that, he'd deal with him a fair bit more, but instead he keeps an eye on what he can of the angel's activities, and otherwise doesn't interfere.
Chrome Dokuro ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Illusionist; suspicious organs
As a person who took offense at his accidental murder of Mukuro, there was little chance that they'd get along from the start. Kurotsuchi still has little opinion as of yet, though her allegiances have definitely earned his attention. Her abilities have yet to be really explored, and if he ever learns about her illusionary organs- she'd make an irresistible target for study.
Fran ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Illusionist; suspicious headgear
Though he'd seen him around the network before, Kurotsuchi didn't have much reason to notice him until after he'd accidentally kind of killed Mukuro after vivisecting him, and even more sort of left his body out in the middle of nowhere. For some reason, Fran didn't appreciate this, even going so far as to hunt him down and attack him! Though he considers this a rather over-the-top response to a simple murder, he can't pinpoint exactly what he thinks of Fran. His abilities are fascinating, of course- illusions capable of fooling him, even temporarily, are more than worth his attention. And his attitude is, if blunt and a bit rude, not nearly as annoying as the people who would shout and whine at him. The amount of damage Fran was able to do, however, is both a source of interest, and something not readily forgiven.
Hino Rei ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Fire manipulator; schoolgirl
Rei is an irritation. Partially because of her arrogance towards him, partially because her connections with Hitsugaya means he's wary of doing more than casually threatening her. She's mocked him, which annoys him, and seems to have far too high an opinion of herself, and a far too low opinion of his own skills. That lack of recognition causes him to dismiss any intelligence, presuming she's careless and a loudmouth and nothing more. Her abilities are pretty interesting though, and after he attacked Tsukino Usagi, he got to see a few of them. He'd deeply enjoy taking her apart, but considering how many allies she has, he knows it's a less than feasible option.
Kida Masaomi ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Schoolboy; idiot
Who is this strange boy and why does he keep talking about his girlfriend? Kurotsuchi has no clue, and he's just this side of obnoxious that he doesn't care to find out. If he ever comes across him alone, though... well, he looks healthy enough, he can make use of that.
Lucifer ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Angel; Devil
Kurotsuchi, simply put, finds Lucifer very, very, annoying. The scientist hates being mocked, hates presumed familiarity, hates... pretty much every way Lucifer chooses to interact with him. The shinigami is not afraid of him, and despite knowing of the other's considerable power, doesn't remotely respect him. Anyone who threatens him that much, in such detail, is someone he can't take seriously, and it strikes him as a form of bravado, nothing else. He certainly accepts that Lucifer is dangerous, and he would never actively go looking to fight him without considerably more information about his abilities. And the combination of danger plus even more considerable annoyance dampens any interest the scientist has in him. He is, basically, not worth the hassle. Not that he'd pass on the opportunity to take him apart, if it was handed to him.
Raven ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Part-demon?
She's a curiosity. Kurotsuchi is not entirely sure what to make of her; their conversations at times annoy him, but not enough that he cuts them off. They're interesting, but not quite provocative enough to entice him to try capturing her. Primarily, he's willing to keep an eye on her, and wait for an opportunity if it presents itself, while learning what he can of her skills and nature from afar. As a plus, Raven doesn't seem as dense and bothersome as most others in the city, so she's someone he grudgingly doesn't mind talking to.
Rokudo Mukuro ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Illusionist; just suspicious
After being tricked and drugged by Yuca, Kurotsuchi had the pleasant chance to vivisect the man. Unfortunately, things went a bit wrong; Mukuro woke up, and in a show of disagreement as to his current condition, was accidentally restrained a bit too thoroughly and killed in the process. The dissection proceeded pretty smoothly, though! But all good things must come to an end, and as the illusionist has now revived, Kurotsuchi regards him with a certain amount of wariness. It's unusual for people to not get a bit upset about dying, and it's the ones who're the most restrained about showing it that're worth watching.
Sebastian Michaelis ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Demon; some sort of servant
Because of a deal with a Ciel, Kurotsuchi had access to cutting apart Sebastian for an afternoon. Good times were had (...though probably not for the demon). As a single encounter is hardly enough to understand something as complexly powerful as that, he's not quite satisfied, but it was a satisfactory start. And Kurotsuchi is aware to some degree of Sebastian's power, which makes him very leery of attacking him directly to collect new material. He looks forward to making some similar deal with a later Ciel perhaps, to acquire the demon's 'consent.'
Uchiha Sasuke ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Ninja; hassle
As a person, Kurotsuchi knows very little of Sasuke. He's singularly a subject, a material, and a rather costly one, as collecting it got him killed by Hitsugaya. So the scientist has something of a grudge against Sasuke as well, and is straightforwardly pleased when something bad happens to him- because it would hurt both him, and the 10th division captain. Kurotsuchi still threatens and insults him, but there's more bitterness to it than there once was. He knows he can't get away with vivisecting him again, not until any number of factors change, and that's a bother.
Xerxes Break ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Bizarre
Kurotsuchi's opinion of Break has jumped around more than anyone else. He 'met' him during vivisection, found his health (or lack there of) rather fascinating, and was a bit disappointed when the man managed to escape. And afterward, he found conversations with him to be fairly interesting; for all that he couldn't always understand Break's bizarre way of behaving, it interested him more than bothered. Additionally, he thought Break's willingness to speak and otherwise deal politely with him, while also openly intending to kill him, refreshingly direct and sensible. Break was one of the only ones willing to try to explain morality and the like in a logical fashion- causing Kurotsuchi to understand the issues slightly better (in an abstract way. That he usually ignores). Well, he tried. After Break's disappearance and reappearance, Kurotsuchi's opinion of him deteriorated. While he never trusted him before, the other's ability to actually infuriate him increased dramatically, largely in part to Break's claims to be able to kill Yuca permanently, even here. For a while, Kurotsuchi loathed him quite strongly. But even that cooled, though it took an event of ten years to manage it. Break's consideration during that period wasn't something he could forget, and he cautiously began approaching him again afterward. Currently, he's back to listening to Break trying to give relationship advice, and not really understanding it.
Yuca Collabel ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Immortal
Kurotsuchi is invested in Yuca's life, and his death. From the start, the immortal was interesting- clever and reasonable, a willing vivisection subject, the owner of an ancient and disturbing soul. Even then he appreciated him a bit, for the intelligent conversation alongside fascinating research. It wasn't until he first contacted Yuca's soul that he began to respect him- that he was really aware of the sheer weight of his history, the lives and memories and everything else that is caught up in the immortal's cycle. He's met the other's despair, his misery, his cruelty- bit by bit, through events, through years of shared research. He's developed a certain fatalism, a melancholy that he didn't have before- from feeling the edge of Yuca's pain, his mind unable to come away from that undamaged, unchanged, both aware and uncomprehending. He wants to understand, for all that it would ruin him; he wants to kill him above all other things. Kurotsuchi trusts Yuca, absolutely. He's comfortable with his presence, gives him use of his first name, and would die if it meant killing Yuca entirely. He fully intends on finding a way between worlds- to force a connection, to kill him thoroughly and finally. He can't rest until it's accomplished; he cares for the other's misery, for all that he can't recognize the feeling. Scientific curiosity, the pure desire to unravel something as complex and impossible as immortality. It's a project he would never reject, even if he'd known of the personal consequences; it's only as of late that he's come to accept they exist. In anyone else, it would be affection or love. In an amoral, unhinged researcher- his absolute adoration for science, and his desire to murder an immortal, is one and the same.
Past CR | ||||||||
Killua Zoldyck ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Electricity manipulator; annoyance
More irritating than a threat, Kurotsuchi regards the boy primarily as a pest. Though he'd be happy to dissect him, the annoyance factor outweighs the hassle of actually going to an effort to collect him. He's slightly more cautious of him than he would be a regular person, despite his dismissal of what he sees as childish attitudes.
Negi Springfield ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Magician; schoolboy?
Kurotsuchi doesn't know that much about Negi, apart from the boy having curious abilities, ones that he'd very happily take apart again. From the conversations they've had, though, Kurotsuchi doesn't have much regard for him, but since he's polite enough, he's not as annoyed with him as he could be. And he's not quite as dismissive of his 'softness' as he otherwise would be, because of Negi's somewhat-scientific mind.
Tom Riddle ![]() Current Subject (...Part) | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Wizard; has nice eyes
Though he doesn't know that much about Tom, what he does know is interesting. From his previous time in the city, he's aware that his regard for morals is less than upstanding, and is a wizard of some considerable ability- or at least, potential. The extent of which he's yet to determine, which means a fair amount of caution until he knows more. Recently, he's acquired one of Tom's eyes and a vial of his blood from Yuca, who obtained it through Lucifer. Fortunately, he was able to study it a fair bit before his laboratory was destroyed during the Ekpyrosis event. And anything he's learned only adds to the interest in vivisecting him entirely.
Tsukino Usagi ![]() Current Subject | Former Subject | Intended Subject Special Classification: Healer; schoolgirl
Kurotsuchi's opinion of Usagi has also considerably varied over time. Initially, he got along with her surprisingly well. She seemed to appreciate his intelligence and scientific interests, and even if she was a dense, flighty schoolgirl, it's much better than being mocked. She was even willing to show him some of her magical abilities, and while it never reached the point of vivisection, it was a barely acceptable compromise. Almost as a reward, he didn't hurt her for going along with his interest. But after Usagi's leaving and reappearance, and after she saw him abusing his daughter, Nemu- any trace of that former tolerance faded. She insulted and mocked him, refused to back away from seeing someone hurt- managing to enrage and provoke Kurotsuchi enough, that he snapped and moved to attack her. Fortunately(?), Usagi's senshi allies were nearby, and together forced a stalemate. No one was seriously hurt, but Kurotsuchi's opinion of her has remained very poor since then. She's an example of the irrationality of sentimentality, and it disgusts him.
